Das Pommernlied

Das Pommernlied, or Song of Pomerania, published in 1853, has become established as the state anthem of Pommern, and has been sung regularly at Verein events. The song was composed, not in the Platt language, but in High German (Hochdeutsch).

Verein member Steve Barlau of rural Merrill, Wisconsin and a former Verein President (2022) has executed an outstanding translation of Das Pommernlied from German to English.  His rendering not only fits the music, but strongly evokes the emotions of separation and longing, and the memories of a homeland left behind, as expressed through all of our senses.
